Setting up a discovered attack: check (2)
You now know how to use forcing moves to prepare a discovered attack when a battery is present and when a battery is not yet present. In this lesson and the next one, you will learn that it is also possible to use the forcing moves checks and threats to set up a battery and create a target at the same time.
In this lesson, focus on the forcing move 'check'.
What do you have to do?
Set up a discovered attack and win material by performing the discovered attack or discovered check.
By now you know that it can valuable to look at forcing moves. Here white has a very useful check with 1.Rg7+. White places a rook on the bishop's diagonal, forcing the black king to stand on this diagonal as well. Black has to play 1...Kh8. White has now not only set up a battery with the rook as the leading piece, but has also aims at the king on h8. A discovered check with 2.Rg5+ now wins the queen on h5!
